Ranunculus are ground-hardy in warmer areas and can be planted in the autumn between September and December for flowers in early spring or in the spring when the danger of frost has passed, usually between March and June for flowers in late summer.

If water pools in the area where you are planting ranunculus corms, it will most likely lead to the corms rotting. Ranunculus do not grow well in wet soil. Poorly drained soil is a common reason for Ranunculus failure. When planting in a heavy soil, you can place at least some sand or grit (or vermiculite, if available) into each hole under the bottom of the bulbs to help with drainage. They will grow equally well in full sun or partial shade.
